The Best Way to Jump Start Another Car

You can easily manage a jump start for a dead car battery from a running car if you can follow these steps. With access to a set of jumper cables, you only need about 10 minutes to have your car battery charged enough for the engine to start.

Line up the front parts of the two cars so that they are close enough that the jumper cables can attach to both batteries. Under the hoods, pair up the red positive clamps with the positive battery terminals. Do the same with the black negative clamps for each battery. Start the engine that runs, but do not touch any metal part of the jumper cables after this point. Give the cars two minutes before you start the dead car to charge the battery.

Make sure that your car battery is in good working order before your next trip at Volvo Cars Rutland.
